Clean fresh water is among the most valuable assets in New Zealand and government must support our sovereign right to our natural resources including water. Successive governments have not exercised Kaitiakitanga around water and ONE Party will make this a priority.
ONE Party do not support foreign companies taking our water, without cost or consultation with stakeholders. The current free for all around water in Aotearoa must stop".
ONE Party support discussion around the ownership and stewardship of water, this includes New Zealand’s sovereignty especially Maori/iwi rights under the Treaty of Waitangi.
The water discussion needs to include, who prospers, who governs, and who guards the resource. Currently there are no clear guidelines. ONE Party have clear environmental policy statements around the restoration of waterways and the stewardship of water resources. There needs to be clear boundaries and policy guarding our water, with particular emphasis on the balance between profitability and sustainability.
